The Late-Summer Skin Reset: Undo 3 Months of Sun, Step by Step
Three months of sun, sweat, chlorine and SPF layering leave a mark on every skin. Late August is the moment to repair it — before fall arrives and the damage settles in. Here's the reset, step by step, with everything you can do at home.
1. Exfoliate gently — not aggressively
Summer skin is often already stressed, so this is not the moment for harsh scrubs. Gentle, consistent exfoliation clears the dull, dry buildup of the season without asking your skin for more repair work.
Three ways in, from mildest to most active:
- Fresh Face Mask Kit — five single-use masks, one for each thing summer did to your skin: brighten, purify, soothe, mend, shine. Start here if your skin is reactive.
- Seluna™ Face Polish — a soft physical polish for the weekly sweep of dry, flaky buildup.
- Renewa™ Resurfacer — the deepest of the three, for texture and post-summer dullness. Once or twice a week, evenings only.
We've gathered all of them in one place: The Late-Summer Reset collection. Pick one lane — masks, polish, or resurfacer — rather than stacking all three in the same week.
2. Flood skin with antioxidants
Sun exposure generates the environmental stress your skin spends weeks quietly dealing with. Antioxidants are the cleanup crew. Every serum in our Every Age line is built around THD vitamin C — a gentle, oil-loving form that brightens and evens tone without stinging — plus antioxidants matched to each decade of skin, like CoQ10, elderberry, and astaxanthin.
Antioxidants work best applied to clean skin in the morning, under SPF — that's when the environmental stress they neutralize actually happens.
3. Rehydrate like you mean it
Air conditioning, salt water and sun all pull water out of skin. Layer hydration back in, thinnest to most occlusive:
- Mist first: Clerra™ Rehydrator Mist puts water back into skin so the next layers have something to hold onto.
- Then moisturize: Aloura™ Face Milk for lightweight daytime hydration, or Kwench® Lunera Face Hydrator overnight, when skin does its repair work.
- Then seal: Everlume™ Glass Skin Face Balm locks everything in — or finish with a face oil if balms feel like too much in August heat.
If your skin drinks everything up and still feels tight, that's the sign it needs the richer end of your routine for a few weeks. Browse all of our face moisturizers to find your weight.
4. Pick the serum for your decade
Skin's needs change every decade, which is why there are six Every Age serums instead of one:
- Clarity — teens, for breakout-prone, uneven skin
- Radiance — 20s, for dullness and early unevenness
- Nourish — 30s, for dry skin with first lines
- Fortify — 40s, for firmness and resilience
- Renew — 50s, oil-forward renewal for mature skin
- Rebound — 60s+, the most vitamin-C-forward of the line
Not sure where to start? The 7-day Every Age Serum lets you trial your decade for a week.
5. Don't stop at your jawline
Neck, chest and hands took the same three months of sun your face did — often with less protection. Extend the reset down: Aloura™ Bare Body Milk for daily rehydration, Everlume™ Body Glass Balm to seal drier zones, and the Ekoa™ Body Renewal Duo when skin needs a full restart. The whole lineup is in body care.
Your two-week reset plan
Put it together and it's simpler than it sounds:
- Week 1: exfoliate once (mask, polish, or resurfacer — pick one), start your antioxidant serum every morning, and run the mist–moisturize–seal routine morning and night.
- Week 2: exfoliate twice if your skin tolerated week 1 well, keep the serum daily, and add the neck-and-chest step in the evening.
By September your skin has cleared the summer backlog and is ready for richer fall textures.
The one non-negotiable
SPF, every morning, all year. Everything above works better on protected skin — and September sun is still sun.
